During rainstorms we get a seeping of water in our basement in the same spot under the main drain pipe of wastewater exiting the house. I recently purchased a home with a crawl space. Currently, fiberglass insulation is used under the floor joists. I would like to look into a better solution for insulating that space, for 2 reasons. First the floor of the house tends to get very cold, particularly in non-carpeted areas. Second, I am concerned with any mold growth issues, as the water table is fairly high in my area, and the crawlspace tends to be wet, particularly after rain.
I envision a layer of rigid foam insulation attached to the underside of the floor joists and taped to create a continuous barrier between the wet, cold crawlspace and the house, but am not 100% sure that is the best solution.
